About the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS)

The Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) was launched in 2003 to provide quality, cashless healthcare to ex-servicemen pensioners and their dependents. It is administered by the Central Organisation ECHS under the Adjutant General's Branch, Integrated HQ of the Ministry of Defence (Army). Care is delivered through a national network of polyclinics backed by service hospitals and empanelled civil hospitals. Beneficiaries access treatment using an ECHS Smart Card, starting at their local polyclinic.
